Matt Behrens

Matt Behrens is currently completing his M.S. in Biology at Northern Arizona University, where his research focuses on the ecological effects of prescribed pile burning as a fire management practice in the boreal forests of Alaska. He plans to continue his studies with a Ph.D. beginning in 2026. With a background in wildland firefighting and a passion for science communication, Matt is committed to bridging research, policy, and practice in ecosystem stewardship. He is excited to join the NRWD cohort and expand his toolbox for collaborative, applied science in his home state of Utah.
