Dialogues on Centering Justice in the National Climate Assessment

The Rising Voices Center for Indigenous and Earth Sciences is hosting a special online event on February 17th from 1:00-3:00pm Mountain Time to discuss centering justice and weaving in a diversity of knowledges and experiences into the Fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5). The NCA5 is a major U.S. Government report about how climate change affects people and places in the United States. Attendees will have the chance to hear from authors of the assessment and discuss together how the report can reflect concerns around and actions towards climate and environmental justice.

This event will be focused on current draft public outlines of the Fifth National Climate Assessment. The 32 chapter outlines are available here. The dialogue event will cover the scope of the NCA with breakout groups devoted to different topical themes, including community relocation/site expansion, energy systems, food systems, health, phenology, and water systems. Please come prepared to discuss the issues of most interest to you. Notes will be taken during the breakout session and plenary, to provide input into the NCA5 1st order chapter drafts. A draft of the notes write-up and high-level summary will be shared with the session participants for an opportunity to review.
